The aim of this project is to conduct ethnographic, archival, and visual research focusing on human connections to landscape and industry in the Finnish North.
The project focuses on the settlement of Leppiniemi (Muhos), built in the 1940s–1960s next to the Pyhäkoski hydropower plant and later considered as a potential site for a wind power park and a Google data centre. It argues that analysing local extractive histories can provide valuable insights into how Northern residents relate to contemporary energy transitions.
